The Lowland Streaked Tenrec
This small mammal looks like a cross between a hedgehog and a zebra. It has black and yellow stripes on its body and a coat of spiny quills on its back. It lives in the forests of Madagascar, where it feeds on insects and worms. It is the only mammal that can communicate by stridulating, which means rubbing its quills together to produce a high-pitched sound. It does this to warn predators or to coordinate with its family members.
