The Human-Pig Chimera
A chimera is an organism that contains cells from two or more different species. In 2017, scientists announced that they had successfully created the first human-pig chimera by injecting human stem cells into pig embryos. The goal was to grow human organs inside pigs for transplantation purposes. However, the experiment raised ethical and safety concerns, as the human cells could also affect the pig’s brain or behavior.
