Today, a day after the cordial relations seen on the faces of the 2 sides of Parliament, the NDC and NPP law makers have clashed over quorum. It can be recalled that on Tuesday the Minority walked out of Parliament after they disagreed with the Majority side over the passage of the e-levy. Subsequently, the bill was passed and the president will append his signature.
In Parliament, Muntaka Mubarak raised the issue as to why some members of the Minority had their names omitted from the votes and proceedings. According to the Minority Chief whip about 8 members of their side were omitted. Muntaka noted that the Clerk, Cyril Nsiah had aligned himself with the Majority side and doing their will.
This view was countered by Afenyo Markin who noted that posterity is paying back Muntaka for what he did to him weeks ago. It can be recalled that weeks ago Afenyo Markin made a comment about raising funds to evacuate Ghanaians from Ukraine. He tried to link it to the passage of the E-levy. This piece was taken by Joy News who published that Afenyo Markin was saying that E-levy money was needed to evacuate Ghanaians. During that time Afenyo was furious and tried to verbally attack Parker Wilson of Multimedia.
This attack was quelled by Muntaka who noted that Parker Wilson is not an MP and not present so Afenyo should stop attacking him. Afenyo out of frustration said posterity will pay Muntaka back. So today as Muntaka raised the issue, Afenyo Markin referred to him and said that there could be an investigation into why the NDC MPs names were omitted but then he rejects claims that the Clerk was pro NPP. He noted that the Clerk cannot defend himself though he was there and so Muntaka had no right to attack him.
In a sharp ruling, Bagbin noted that the two sides will have to sit and resolve the issue regarding names committed but pointed out that the Muntaka had no right to attack the clerk because he had no voice in the house and couldn’t defend himself.
